Hi,
I'm new into lathes and would like to have:
A used lathe to be used on a hobbyist level alone for doing some model engineering projects.
A few questions:
1. I have played with Chinese lathes and they all work OK, however I hate the play in the main carriage handwheel, the cross slide handwheel etc. Will Schaublin or higher end lathes not have this play?
2. I thought, before reading in this forum, that Schaublin lathes would be the best one could get. However, it seems that Hardinge and Monarch are more beloved. Is that because of the dominating American audience in this forum?
3. Anyhow, in terms of Schaublin lathes, is there an online resource (or similar) where Schaublin lathes are compared (what can they do, and not do). It would be nice to get a full overview on all the 102 versions and what exactly is special about the 120VM? I think 125, 135 and upwards are too big for me.
4. Where I live I have seen a fully equipped 120VM incl all sorts of acessories for the equivalent to 4800 US dollars. Is that a fair asking price?
Lucas
