Schaublin 102N back gear- how does it work ?

Sure there is a little lever on the headstock, you turn it to the right a bit for normal operations and to the left for back gear. And yes there are two reduction gears in there that slide into place when you put it in back gear. But there is a set screw on the belt pulley nearby and wondering it that is supposed to be adjusted for torque or what ? My instruction manual does not even mention the back gear...anywhere.
