Graziano SAG 12S cross slide play/wear ...

Hi,

In the Graziano SAG 12S that I am working on the cross slide has some play.

I found that the part that holds the cross slide half nut has wear in it. I made a new part
and that reduced the overall cross slide play a bit.

I have also triad tightening the half nut and the GIB, it is a bit better but did not solve
the problem, still some play that effects the surface finish. Also the cross slide now moves
tighter (rotating the handle) and its cumbersome.

I checked again, and I found that if I move the cross slide to me (larger diameter) it has no
play while if I move the cross slide closer to the center line it has wear. I can move the QCTP
by hand with the cross slide. So I assume this is probably caused by wear in the lead screw.

I am planing to lap the lead screw and than make a new half nut to fit it afterwards.

The idea is to create an Aluminum nut that can be tightened, use it as the lapping tool and after
reaching a nice parallel lead screw create a new Bronze half nut to suit.

Any ideas ??

Thanks,
Noam.
