All:
(Hope this is the right place for this information -- just passing it on for others to benefit).
We recently acquired a Takisawa (manual) lathe in good condition ... but the one change gear that was missing was the 127-tooth one (M1.5), which is required to cut metric threads on our Tak. Our Tak (and I suspect every other one in the USA) has a 6tpi lead screw, not a metric lead screw ...
As part of a discussion with Takisawa USA (we bought a couple of replacement parts -- a rather pleasant experience ... not cheap, but not outrageously expensive, either), Tak USA asked Tak Taiwan (who (still) build the manual Tak lathes) about the availability of the original 127-tooth change gear, and the response was that it is NLA. I suspect this is because no one outside of the USA needs the 127-tooth change gear, because those machines outside the USA and still made in Taiwan have metric lead screws, and Tak no longer sells manual lathes in the USA ...
Anyway, we recently found that the eBay seller "americanmetric" offers 127-tooth M1.5 steel spur gears ... and can do custom bores. We requested such a gear with the right bore and keyway (22mm bore, keyway is 5.08mm wide and 2mm tall) and had it in our hands within one week, and it's spot on. The gear is still too thick, but we'll have it ground down to match the other Tak change gears ...
So, anyway, very pleased with what we got, at a very reasonable price.
The basic gear is currently available, see e.g eBayitem #51b07e4648, description is "M1.5A127 MPB Steel Spur Gear no Hub 1.5 Mod 127 Teeth."
Hope this helps anyone looking for a change gear for their lathe ...
