Schaublin 53 high speed head fit the 52?

Factory Graziano SAG 14 chuck type question.

A question I am hoping you guys can help me out with. I searched under Graziano chuck jaws and didn't find anything pertinent in the results so decided to just ask here.

My friend just picked up a Graziano SAG 14. It came with two chucks. One was a set-tru Buck 9" 6-jaw. It came with one piece inner and outer jaws and also matching bottom 2 piece jaws. This uses the American Standard Tongue and Groove 8" size. As you can see from the attached photo the previous owner made quite a few sets of aluminum soft jaws for it. It does not have reversible hardened upper jaws but with the standard size they should be easy enough to find. The 6 jaw is on the lathe atm so not pictured but the top two boxes are all the jaws for that chuck.

The other chuck that came with the lathe from the factory was a 8" MPT (Made in Italy) three jaw scroll chuck. This also came with one piece inner and outer jaws you can see in the box next to the chuck, it is the lower box in the picture. It also has the bottom jaws for 2 piece jaws. There are a few sets of aluminum uppers and one blank set of steel uppers.

The question is, does anyone know what that jaw type is? I checked Monster Jaws and didn't find any matches. And randomly Googled MPT chuck jaws and looked at the images but didn't see any mention of what they are. They have a 10mm groove with a key axially and a 20mm groove radially. He would like to pick up a set of reversible hardened steel jaws for this for generic use also.

(the two sets in the middle box are MPT type but 12/22mm on the grooves so don't fit any chucks he received)

Any information you guys can provide would be much appreciated. If you need any more information please just ask. Thanks much.

Ferro 20 threading

Hello,i would like to know if ferro 20 make metric thread.i look this lathe but metric thread is a criterion to buy there. Thanks!

Graziano SAG 14 help needed

Last week I found a fairly decent Graziano SAG 14 on the local Craig’s list and brought it back to the shop after some light haggling.
I have read as many of the posts here on PM about these lathes that I could find and now that I have had some quality time
w/ the machine I have some questions for you Graziani types…

Some of these points have been discussed in different posts so I will try to keep it short and sweet and w/ your help get some
issues answered and this lathe set up and properly equipped.

First off the lathe came to me with very little tooling. Seems it originally came from a shop where there were several of these
and the original tooling is probably still there. The basic stuff needed has been noted here on the PM posts as unobtanium or
make it yourself items like the spindle adapter to MT4, the steady rest, I have yet to use a follower… but that’s just me. the
other things like tailstock arbors and chuck / drive plates I can find here and there but the toughie is going to be the spindle
arbor.

As far as condition and function goes this is a fairly nice machine for its age. I can’t see where it was ever left outside to
marinate in the rain so that probably rules out the US Government as the original purchaser. The guy I bought it from is
a very talented TIG welder and he was in the process of cleaning and painting when Mrs. TIG welder announced that
a new future TIG welder about to appear. So after I took possession I did all the regular things like new belts, new oil
and lots of elbow grease. The machine came w/ a new RPC so I was able to operate some of the lever functions and found
that the only real problem is in the lead screw/ carriage drive rod engagement.

When the machine was demonstrated I saw that the carriage moved when engaged, cross feed worked etc. but now for
some reason this engagement slips. It’s like it is alongside the opposing gear that it is supposed to meshed with but jut on
the edge…. the lead screw rotates as does the power shaft when the screw bar coupling lever is engaged in either position
but there is no real engagement.

I haven’t opened the cast cover as of yet as I am thinking that the problem is in the carriage stop disconnect assembly that
is mounted on the power shaft by the gear case… It’s like it won’t move fully to the right to engage. Any prior experience
here would be greatly appreciated before I “open the patient”.

Thanks in advance,

Chuck Kiegh

SAG 14 Tailstock Question

I spent some time getting to know my SAG 14 today and realized that the tailstock taper does not have a lock for tool tangs. I checked the manual to see if there was some internal piece missing or whatnot, but doesn't seem to be.

This is the first lathe I've used that doesn't. For smaller drills will probably be fine, but I can't image an inch plus drill won't spin on just the taper .. or will it ?

Thanks for any feedback.

Schaublin 102N F64 questions

I have recently aquired a couple of F64 spindles for my 102N. I have most of the round sizes, but im looking for some square and some octagonal ones.

I am also looking for a 3 and a 4 jaw chuck with a bore of about 70mm (spindlebore is 72mm) I have schaublin backplates.

Does anybody know of a company that makes chucks like that? Or could an ordinary chuck be bored?

Also the manual states light work on the F64 spindle. I will be using it on aluminium and brass, but how many kg is the max for the spindle?

All experience with these spindles will be greatly appreciated!

Graziano Sag 12 Follow rest I think....

Hi Guys,

There appears to be a sag 12 follow rest listed here. I follow Graziano sag lathes on ebay though I only have a sag 210 now, no longer the sag 12.

Here's the link.

Lathe Follower Rest Graziano Sag 12 D5135 | eBay

The seller has this which seems like it might be the steady for a sag 12 as well.

Lathe Steady Rest 6 1 8" Center Height 12" Swing D5118 | eBay

No gurantees though on either one.

I have no affiliation with the seller, just with Graziano lathes.

Good luck everyone!

Cheers,

Grant

Made a Steady Rest for my SAG 12

I've been wanting a steady for my SAG 12. Been looking for several years but they seem to be rare as hen's teeth. So... I made one. Took a piece of scrap aluminum and hacked it out on the Bridgeport. I don't know what alloy it is; it's definitely harder than 6061 so maybe 2024 or 7075. It was pretty beat up so after facing, it wound up about 1.75 inches thick. Rounded off the edges with a carbide bit in my wood router, drilled and tapped a few 1/2-20 holes, some bolts to match, a few bronze tips and Bob's your uncle...

Schaublin 102 bed turret question

Sockets of my bed turret are out of alignment. found nothing searching manuels. Anyone know if there is a means of adjustment?
It looks like the sockets stop about 2 degrees short of alignment with spindle bore. Thanks.

Wahli 76 user manual or brochure

Hello there, today I become a happy owner of Wahli 76, but unfortunately I dont have any manual or brochure about it. Does anyone have any manual/ info booklets/ anything about Wahli 76? If yes, please send it to my email address: vreciak64@gmail.com . I would appreciated it very much. Thanks

1955 VDF Lathe

Hi I'm new here, name's Bart. Anyway my dad was a tool and die maker and had a 1955 VDF lathe from Heidenreich & Harbeck. He taught me how to use it several years ago, and then just this year he passed away. I got all his tools and machines, including this lathe. Now I'm pretty rusty with it so I don't really remember completely what every little lever does. Does anyone know where I can get a users manual, or some kind of document with all the functions and settings of this amazing machine. If it helps I found this number on it; s500k0280. Most of it is pretty obvious, like the start button and lever, switching out the bits, changing the rpms and all that. But I remember my dad having it move diagonally automatically and I'd like to figure out exactly how to do that. If there's an VDF expert here I would greatly appreciate reading anything he or she'd have to say.

Thanks,

Bart.

Keiyo Seiki lathe

I was at a friend's shop yesterday and saw he has an old looking Keiyo Seiki KG-1000 lathe he is looking to sell. Does anyone have any experience with one of these lathes and know what it might be worth and what its capabilities are? I've never owned or used a lathe before, and I don't know what I should look for as potential problems. Can anyone give me any advice? I appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks.

Schaublin 70 With Inch Slides?

I have heard that Schaublin 70 slides with inch graduations are not common yet mine has them as does one that is for sale on ebay.

Are they rare?

Graziano Sag 14 how big of a project is this?

Today I looked at a Sag 14 that is up for sale at a surplus auction taking place tomorrow. Pulled top cover off, no teeth missing no visible signs of abuse comes with Rohm 4 jaw even has the steady.

As can be seen in the pictures the motor and mounting plate are missing and I'm going to assume the motor starter.

I understand parts are like hens teeth for these things but mechanically best that I can tell without it running is it's in decent shape.

How big of a project is this going to turn into mounting the motor?
Is it a simple flange mounted motor on a plate?

Any and all opinions appreciated.

Boley Leinen MLZ4 SB manual available

Hi,

Maybe this can be useful for somebody. Following this link you will find a (german) manual of the Boley Leinen MLZ4 SB (also very close to the LZ4 SB type).

My best

Carriage bound up on my Whacheon

Short version: I think I powered my carraige into the headstock, and now it's all bound up and almost impossible to move with the handwheel.

Long version: I went out to the shop this afternoon to do a quick job for a customer. I think I messed up my Webb. The symptom-- carraige is almost impossible to move along the Z axis with the carriage handwheel.

I think it was my fault. I think when I started it with the VFD today, set to a slow freq because the machine gearing was at 1800 rpm, the carraige powerfeed lever was UP and very slowly (the feeds gearing was set for it's slowest feed) powerfeeded the carraige into the carraige micrometer stop.... which was up against the headstock because I was using collets and working up close to the headstock.

My bad on multiple fronts, obviously. Failure to assess the machine and failure to note the very sloooow carraige feed.

I assume that a well engineered machine such as this one would have a "fuse" in place to anticipate such dumbshit maneuvers. A shear pin presumably. But before I tear into it tomorrow, if anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be very thankful.

Ugh. I do a lot of business through this machine. Thank you for any help.

Dropping the apron on a manual Mori or Whacheon

Ok, the guy at Whacheon tells me I bent my pinion shaft and that it's a common thing that they see. Says I need to drop the apron. I've started that. If anyone here has ever done it, I'm a bit stuck and could use advice. I'll figure it out myself eventually but if nothing else, the less I take apart here, the less I have to put back together. Thanks.

Scinta lathe

I am the happy new owner of a cute little Scinta lathe and thought I would start a thread on these apparently somewhat unusual machines.

No photos yet, as I only just picked it up Saturday in New Jersey on my way back to Texas, and it's still packed in the truck. Once I get a chance to clean it up, I'll post some pics.

It's dirty and showing signs of use, but it came with a number of interesting pieces, including a tiny Scintilla 3-jaw, a nice set of collets with drawbar, a tailstock, a steady rest, and whatever you call that little bar that one uses for wood turning. It also has a pair of the neat-o epicyclic pulleys that Tony describes.

It's set up with a carriage and cross slide for metal turning, and it looks as though it can thread, having a lead screw and change gears. More on the gears when I've had a chance to see what's fitted. It all sits on a sturdy baseplate and has a small US motor that at least looks period-appropriate even if it isn't Swiss.

There's good information on these on Tony's site but not a whole lot, relatively speaking, around the rest of the web. Any fans on the forum here?

Got my dream lathe

Hello all,

After quite some time searching for a Weiler Matador i finally found one.:D
It's built in 1990 and has some nice accessories too.

5c collets 50 pcs.
drillchuck
live and dead center
Camlock
protected driveplate for lathedog
3 jaw rohm
4 jaw
spindle protector
bed stop
multifix (Klopfer Germany)with 7 holders
coolant pump
waldman lamp

It's in great shape, according to the chips i found it was mainly used for brass, aluminium and plastics.

Didn't come with a manual though, just the electric scheme was there. Anybody has a link to an english one in pdf?

Have a question about the automatic bedstop. Is it supposed to disengage the handle for automatic feed, or does it just slip?
Have to wait for one more week before they get my 3 phase electrics done and can start making chips.

Also in the pics i'll attach, there is a fast drill lever. Does it need an other housing then the dial tailstock?

I'm back to some polishing and cleaning now. pff, a week is long with such a nice machine waiting for you.
