Metric Thread Cutting on Graziano SAG12

$

I do a good bit of even number TPI standard thread cutting on my SAG12 but now I have some metric threads that I need to cut up to a shoulder

Can I proceed in the same manner as I do while cutting standard threads or do I need to keep the same number on the thread counter or do I need to keep the half nuts closed once I start cutting?

Not that it matters but I need to cut M12x1.5

Two machines, One thread pitch....

I needed to put on 14 TPI on a 7/8 " diameter.

The Mazak Ajax Hercules requires a change of gears to perform the transposition. Not much of an imposition really

But

The with Weiler LZ330, the same selection is but a selection on the tumbler box and gear set.

Just in case anyone is interested. I'm happy to have all the change gears for both machines!

Hello,my name is Pat and this is my first post, to this forum. I have spent most of my time on another forum. I bought JHOLLAND1's Cazeneuve lathe. He made me a fair deal, and I am happy to have it. I have cleaned it and reworked the VFD controls and indicating lights to my liking.

I am looking for some parts for the lathe, that have been long gone before I acquired the lathe. I am looking for a steady rest, spindle extension sleeve, and the spindle preload nut with keepers. I thought I might post it here as some of you are on the other side of the pond, where this lathe is more abundant supply and this seems to be the only forum with any information on the Cazeneuve lathe. Any help would be appreciated. I have follow a couple of links, from other posts here, to ebay france, but have found it difficult to do a proper search.

Here is a picture of the lathe, as I was doing the control wiring. It is now finished and setting up against the wall behind, where it is sitting in this picture. The space it is sitting in, is a small hobby shop where I do bike repairs things for friends and some home repair projects.

I have more pictures if people are interested in them.
I am an electrical contractor by trade and am still working at the moment. This is part of my retirement plan.
Thanks for looking.

Has anybody here avett changed the seal behind the chuck? Can it be done by just removing the chuck or did the spindle have to come out? I don't have a diagram either.

Cazeneuve HBX360 is splitting threads! Why?

I have a Cazeneuve HBX 360 lathe. It seems to be in pretty good condition over all, but it has an issue.
When trying to cut a thread it will split the thread. Some times it goes on for a bit and hits it right and then it will split the thread, the next path it will split it again, by about the same amount as it split the first one. Ends up being like a multi start thread, and I have no idea why. This happens across all the pitches, both metric and imperial.

I have pulled the top gear on the quadrant and the shear pins are intact and lined up.

I would entertain any thoughts on this.
Thanks in advance for any help I may receive.

Hi,

I am fixing up my "new" Schaublin 13 (newer square model, 1972) and need some parts that seems to be hard to find here in Sweden. Any help needed on how I can source these items is highly appreciated! Perhaps some of you 13 owners out there have parts laying around dying to get rid of. Or not...

1. ISO30 drive gear for the slotting head (for the old model slotting head with 17 teeth)
2. Hand wheel handles (black aluminium including the shank)
3. Aluminium scale for X-axis (mounted on the "knee" behind the XY-table

Firstly hello to all, we have a schaublin 13 ( manufactured 1964). I am trying to use the horizontal arbour attachment which currently has a 1.6mm saw blade type cutter fitted. I want to fit a 25mm convex cutter onto the arbour but cannot dismantle it, one end has the number 4 morse taper fits into the milling machine the other end has a spacer with 2 flats on. Spent the afternoon trying to remove the spacer with 2 flats ( "nut") to no avail:mad5:, is it a normal r/h thread or is it l/h thread? Also is there a way to lock the drive shaft on the schaublin 13? Any help much appreciated:D.

Graziano SAG210 Metric change gears...

Just wondering if anyone has a set of change gears of a Graziano? A SAG210 to be exact, but maybe they are the same for other models? I dont know how much luck I'll have finding these gears so as an alternate I am wondering if anyone has the specs on these gears? Tooth count, module, diameters etc? These gears are the only thing I didnt get when I bought this lathe and I now have a need for them. Is a carrier needed for these gears, I think some call it a banjo? I can make what I need but it would be great to have a place to start or copy.
Thank you

James

Does any one have a copy or know the specs of DIN 8605. I am familiar with Schlesinger specs and have several copies of those. But not DIN.

I saw a couple sources online but they were shady and wanted too much money even if legit for one spec.

Cazeneuve Chuck Mounting on HB575

$

Hello all..

Recently purchased a 70's HB575. This might be a little bit of a novice machinist question but I am not familiar with this type of chuck mount and it certainly differs from what I have seen on these lathes (and others).

Instead of centering on a taper and then being bolted in place, or mounting onto a series of cam studs, the back plate on this HB575 is mounted with three conically-tipped studs that are threaded. These threaded studs then push onto the lathe in conical mounting holes.

It seems like a poor design from the standpoint that only the tips of these studs anchor the plate, chuck, and work piece. I could see the stud tips shearing after prolonged heavy cuts combined with significant weight. Also, with any sort of chatter it would seem rather likely that the studs will loosen and walk.

Does anyone have a picture of the backside of an original faceplate or chuck showing how it mounts? Mine also doesn't have the tapered cone center I see on a lot of these machines in OE vintage photos and so I am a little curious. Ideally, I would like to keep both 12" Cushman chucks that came with but secure the overall mounting better.

No affiliation with the seller, but this seemed potentially interesting: Hembrug Lathe

The UK lathe site says good things; anyone have any experience with this model? (It looks like original paint?)

[Apologies if this is the wrong forum --- I had seen some other Hemburg posts here over the years.]

Converted Schaublin 3ph motor to restore, internal wiring mystery, help!

$

The 2 speed 3ph 230v motor on my 102N was converted to single phase by a hobbyist, it needs to be a 3ph motor again.
In 1999 I got wiring schematics from Schaublin and brought the motor to a motor shop to sort out.
They told me it was irreversibly modified so I've been running it on 220 single phase all these years.

Here's what has been done, is this common? Does the external wiring imply what is inside? The Schaublin drawings don't show internal wiring but there may be hints in the speeds and power designations.

The motor runs nicely as single phase. It starts without fuss and runs at 1800 rpm. The work seems to have been done by a motor professional, there are non original wires used inside the motor that are intended for that(Beldin 3191).

Coming out of the motor are tagged wires numbered 1-4 and two aftermarket wires labeled "?" in the sketch and two red wires.
The terminal block for jumpering that's implied by the schematic on the cover is gone. A capacitor and motor starter thing are wired in.

102 Threading attachment gear arbor opening measurement please?

Hello,

I am trying to find out what the center opening dimension is on threading gears associated with a Schaublin 102 threading attachment. Can someone measure and let me know what it is? I would greatly appreciate it..

Thanks

Schaublin SV-12 info

Ran across a 1960 Schaublin mill in extremely nice condition, not needing it at all I was intrigued by the size and how smooth everything worked. Took it to my shop to tinker with it and did some research and found (like most things in my life) lots of things that I did not have for it.... Vertical head would be very nice to have if anyone would have something like this. It does have a nice table and vise that came with it. If anyone could help with the plethora of attachments or guide me to them for a machine that I most likely will never use but like... I would appreciate it!
Thanks in advance

I want to do cross drilling on my Schaublin 102 - what have you guys done?

$

Hey guys, I have a job that I want to run and I am having a hard time coming up with the best way to go about it. I have a 102 with a lever action cross slide on front and back. The parts are a couple variations, but the same type. They are 1/4" and 5/16" OD round bar that get 3 holes drilled and tapped each. Two are in the same plane with the 3rd center one 90 degrees from the other two. The shortest part is 3/8" long and the longest is 1" long. All 3 holes are the same thread and through the part.

I think I'd like to use the Schaublin to do the parts and if I could drill and tap while in the machine that would be great, then part off last. The lathe has the indexing plate in the head stock, so I can hold it in position.

Have any of you made anything like this to cross drill?

These are old pics, but this is the cross slide I have.

Thanks,
Jason

Help with Cadillac (Mori?) tailstock. Can't get cam lock lever out.

$

So I have a Cadillac 1440, which I love. From everything I've read, it's a Mori clone, so I figured I'd post in here. I'm not sure if the tail stocks are the same or not. There's the lock lever that locks the tail stock down on the ways, with the clamp on the bottom, like most lathes. This looks to use a cam setup and there is a roll pin that looks like it sheared (had been a little sloppy since I got it, now I know why) underneath. I was able to get the roll pin out, but now the cam action doesn't function via the lever. This is with the tail stock removed off of the lathe and upside down. I can probably just drive another roll pin in there and be on my merry way, but the lever has never felt all that smooth, so I want to take the action apart and clean, lube and possibly hone everything. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get it apart. No set screws, no obvious threads for unscrewing the main pin, nothing. Just wondering if anyone had insight onto how these actually come apart. Seems silly to ask about something seemingly so simple, but I've stared and stared and have no idea. I'm sure it's simple and probably right in front of me, but can't figure it out.

Thanks. I can add some pics if needed later tonight.

Belting for Schaublin 70

$

HI,

A acquired a Schaublin 70 recently, its the style intended to be driven from underneath the bench. With it came Schaublin drive, the type you'd normally see with the headstock style that is driven from above. My thought is to invert this drive and bolt to the underside of the bench.

My questions is what to do about belting. Ideally there is some material I can buy and make my own belts of whatever length. Do you have any suggestions?

thanks
