Back Plates for Schaublin 102 available?

$

Anyone making generic chuck back plates? On ebay there are some new ones made for a 70, and a couple of used ones for a 102 but I'm struggling to find anything else.
Niels Machines didn't have one when I last looked.

First manual lathe: Yam 550

$

I posted here since my internet research has revealed this machine to be a Taiwanese Mori copy as a Mori subsidiary?

It's been about a decade since I worked on a manual lathe in the school workshop but now I'm in the market to purchase a small, manual lathe for the garage. Found this one down the road for a couple grand and it's perfect since it's small and short. I just need something to fart around on. Looks like its been freshened up with paint and looks to be in decent condition. Doesn't appear to have a chuck or tooling so I was wondering what's a decent all-around, general use chuck to start with? The seller might have a chuck but figure I could at least get a new one to start with since I have some extra money to spare. I'm not a whiz with lathes so not sure what works with what.

Also, any manuals floating around?

Thanks.

Schaublin hand oiler

I bought this Schaublin oiler at an antique mall this afternoon. I'd never seen one before so I thought I'd share pics. I don't know how common these are, seems like I'm always reading threads where people are looking for oilers.

How many feet under a Weiler Matador?

$

Hi all,

I just received my dream Weiler Matador lathe.
Since it didn't come with a manual, and I cannot find it online, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of my question: how many rubber feet does one place under this machine?
To me it looks like 4 on each side, is that correct?
(it came on a wooden pallet without these feet).
Thanks!
Joris

Semester projects from foreign students

I came out of retirement to teach a class of foreign students from India. Most had no machining experience at all and the photo shows the results of a short semesters (about 10 2 hour labs)work. They produced a stub mandrel and 3" aluminum pulley. All 29 were able to complete their parts which is unusual at a school.

Need help ID'ing a lathe

I was told this lathe in made in Italy, and was exported to the US. I have looked through all the lathes made in Italy on lathe.uk but still have no idea what or who made this.
It appears to be a 16x60(ish) gap-bed, and has the name plate "Imperial" on it. I can not find any other info on this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Schaublin 135 lifting bolts?

$
0
0
Does anyone (in Europe) have set of schaublin 135 lifting bolts/eyes they would like to sell, rent or loan me?

If not does anyone know what size the thread is? with a ruler it looks like M22 x 2.5 but I am not sure on the diameter and all my measurement tools are packed up or shipped already.

I have set a threaded rod stubs (60mm long threaded rods) from Ole Steen but on my machine (unlike the later ones) two of the holes are vertical so these won't work without modification and I don't have time or tools to do that. I should be able to get a friend to make me a set of proper bolts but I need to know what thread to tell them to cut.

it is the threaded eyes that are used with a rod at either end to lift the machine

thanks
Luke

Schaublin 70 turret tooling?

$
0
0
I've just reconditioned a turret for a 70, and am adapting it to a larger lathe (pratt whitney 7") but upon
inspection the tooling holes existing in the turret now are 14 mm. Is this a common size or has this been
modified in the past by a prior owner?

All my tooling is 5/8 inch shank so I am tempted to bore this up to accept the tooling I do have rather
than attempting to find more pesky swiss unicorn lips.....

Thanks much - Jim

EMCO MAXIMAT COMPACT M3100 mark2 - need for parts or parts dimensions

$

Hello,
My apologies if this is not the right place for this post; the main thread doesn't mention the EMCO brand but I saw a few EMCO posts here and they share a few specs with the Schaublin (usage of W20 collets).

I recenlty acquired a used but clean Austrian lathe from a retired gentleman. He was a plumber and not a mechanic, so he did not have the complete set of accessories for his machine, which I am trying now to complete.

It is an EMCO MAXIMAT COMPACT M3100 mark2, but without the banjo arm (quadrant set) holding the 4 interchangeable gears to set the screw-cutting pitch. I am highly motivated to buy/build such accessory as I can't have proper pitch for screw cutting without it. It is currently equipped with a 2 speed pulley that allows for a fast removal of materials, and a finish pass, but no gearbox for threads. EMCO at the time (60s) had the MQ-3120 option for sale, but my lathe wasn't lucky to get that one.

Could one of you help me out by selling a spare, or providing diagrams allowing me to get one rebuilt?
Thanks in advance!

Laurent

It didn't have much in the way of tooling, 2 3 jaw chucks, a drill chuck, that steady, a Royal lever collet closer (minus spindle adapters and collets), BUT, I did find the change gears, 28 of them! that includes 9 with internal splines that must be for the gearbox.

ok, its not perfect, the leadscrew has some wear on it, (I'll post photos of that), the cross slide has about 35 thou backlash, and the spindle has 5 thou TIR, at least. any tips on tightening that up would be appreciated.

the ways look good, the gears too, (opened up the headstock).

I'd like to get an original paper copy of the manual, (don't mind paying 80 bucks + if I have to), do ya'll have any recommendations on the best source for that? thanks, Cy.

Harrison M250/M300 taper attachment leadscrew splines dimensions

$

Hi,

Trying to figure out are these Harrison splines their own "standard" or fits to some international standards as well? I'm not strong in mechanical theory, from what I found, ISO 14:1982, for example, defines smallest sizes d=11, D=14. But Harrison splines have D=11.

I need to order new leadscrew (and also make new female part) and I thought that it would be good idea to use closest standard dimensions if existing Harrison are not standard. Or they are standard?

Takisawa TSL-1000 project lathe

$

Picked up a fairly good used Takisawa 14x40 (Yuasa) lathe a couple weeks ago. Thought I’d start this thread to show our progress on the clean up and transition from a unused chunk of dirty iron to a decent working piece of shop equipment.

At first sight it seemed pretty good condition but it’s life sitting in a welding area did take a toll on its cleanliness in the raw state. I drove thru a snowstorm to get first look before the other Craigslist lookers could clear the snow from their driveways. When picking up the machine next day the seller told me he had 10-12 more calls, so it payed off to be the early worm with $1500.

Weiler Matador tailstock spindle nut needs re-newing.

My Weiler Matador being now well over 40 years old could do with a new nut for the tailstock spindle. Before going to the trouble of making a new one with the attending trouble of acquiring suitable bronze material, grinding up a suitable tool, getting hold of a finishing tap etc etc, I am wondering if anyone can point me to a source of a new one for purchase. My lathe is Imperial so the screw is 10 tpi Left hand 5/8" Acme as far as I can make out. The screw is still in good condition but the nut is worn.
There may be some new/old stock somewhere on the planet.
I am assuming that Weiler used the Acme 29 degree form and not the 30 degree Trapezezoidal form for the feed screws on their Imperial lathes.

Hello everyone. First time posting but ive read abit. Ive bought an schaublin 13 -63 milling machine. It was pretty much in parts so ive been rebuilding it and now ive run in to a problem. The feed dont work. The feedbox seems fine but its not turning the shaft that goes up in the apron i guess is the name for it. Looking at this not verry high quality exploded image. Can anyone tell me what this part is? If you have i picture i would be verry happy if you could share it with me.

Is there some way to test the x axis to find out why it's not working. Bought It like that. The z axis work fine any suggestion. I know the x is working on the screen so it's the x linear scala that doesn't work.
