Looking for operators manual or some help operating Voest DAT lathe

$

HI all,

As you may have seen in my other post, Lathesaurus Rex, I have acquired a Voest DATR-1.5 lathe and have it all cleaned, lubed and operating, but as this is my first lathe, and the service manual I have doesn't explain the operation well enough for me to figure out how to correctly operate this. My main concern is changing the longitudinal feed rate, I can't seem to slow it down enough to get a fine cut. Operating at a spindle speed of 975RPM, turning 1.25" aluminum. I have changed the star wheel from 1 to 11 and it still seems to be feeding too fast. Lever A is in position II. The external gears under the gear cover on the headstock are from top to bottom, 33, 57 and 66.

Any help, greatly appreciated. Is there an operators manual out there somewhere?

Cheers

My son is traveling in Europe and will be in Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. What are some recommendations for used machinery dealers, Schaublin, Deckel, etc?

What about museums with machinery, steam engines, etc?

Thanks...

Schaublin 135 belt change

I have a Schaublin 135 which needs new belts, they've worn and stretched now to a point where they aren't functioning correctly, and an oil leak on the countershaft probably hasn't helped. I've stripped it as far as I can according to the manual, but my machine is fitted with a lever type collet closer which isn't in the manual. I need to get the shaft end off (see photo) so I can remove the rear bearing and then split the spindle pulley. The piece has a split collar on it, but the piece itself doesn't have any splits so I'm not really sure why it's there! From the drawing in the manual of the ordinary machine I can see the location that the piece is sat on, but it gives no indication of whether or not it's threaded. Underneath the split collar it has four slots, but using a drift it doesn't move either way. I have got a C spanner to fit but it's in my toolbox at work.

Unusual Spindle on Schaublin 120 TO (plain 120)

$

This lathe as the thread chasing arrangement where by the chaser moves the whole spindle in and out. Does anyone have an understanding of how this works? What are the bearings - a plain bearing that both lets the shaft slide and rotate, or roller element moving inside a cylinder? I kind of like this lathe and was thinking of getting it, but there is over a thou TIR on the outside of the sliding spindle so something doesn't seem right. I thought it might less with the spindle locked but couldn't figure out how to lock it!

The other is how do you lock the spindle in position? The grey knob on the inboard side of the headstock sort of engages the spindle a bit like a rack/gear,. except it only does so in a few spots so that''s either not its function or its messed up. Even if it was suppose to engage a rack on the bearing, it doesn't suggest how to lock the spindle form moving along the the Z axis.

Finally the carriage lock doesn't work, shouldn't be a huge deal to fix, but I could not get a reliable inside runout reading as I can't lock either the carriage or the spindle.

Can anyone explain what is going on and the spindle mechanism works and locks? What do you guys think of this arrangement? brilliant or run away?

Thanks for any insight!

I own a very nice Okuma LK tool room lathe, the size is 14 x 32.

Does anyone have any leads on where I might find fixed and traveling steadies for this lathe please? Unfortunately there were no accessories available when I purchased it.

I have added a couple of photos, there is an Okuma traveling steady front left on the floor in one of the attached photos.

Thanks for your help.

Early vs late Schaublin 13

Hi,

I’m looking into buying a Schaublin 13 milling machine that came up in my area recently. The price is fairly low (a half or third of what I would need to pay for a decently looking Deckel here, Germans do like their machines it seems!). The only caveat is that it’s an early lighter version and most of the praise that Schaublins get is in context of later versions. Anyone here worked on both versions and can say if the early version is still a decent machine? I haven’t seen it in person yet, so I’m not sure about the wear, but I wanted to get as much info as I can get before viewing it.

On the upside it comes with all the types of heads (slotting, milling and a high speed drilling head), with two overarm supports, a few horizontal shafts and cutters and some holders and collets.

I’m particularly worried about a lower weight (ie. less rigidity) and a MT4 taper instead of ISO30 which I heard is preferable.

I should probably add that I plan to do some work in cast iron, mild steel and tool steel mainly, rather smaller stuff (like tooling). I haven’t own a mill yet, only a lathe and a shaper.

Dripfeed Fanuc 20-T

Hello,

I have some questions about a Fanuc 20-T.This control is mounted on a Schaublin CCN125 from aprox.1995.

We purchased a PCMCIA 6mb Sram card to run NC programs from this card.
In MDI mode this card is visible and I am able to read en write parameters to the card.
The card is not visible in EDIT Mode.I read on the internet the Fanuc control has to be in I/O 4.
On our control only I/O channels 0,1 and 2 are available and not I/O 4. channel.
How do I manage to cnc from this card?In other words:I put a O cnc program on it and how to read and run the program. We need to run CNC programs from this card because we use CAD/CAM to control the machine. Our internal memory in the 20-T is only 16K

Another thing is how we can DNC dripfeed or Blockwise on this machine via RS232?We can write and read programs to and from the machine. Is it possible to dripfeed with this Fanuc 20-T and how we set the machine ready to receive long cnc programs.

I hope someone can help me.

How many gears are controlled by this selector and how many gears may be damaged if a lathe has this selector disabled. How impossible is the repair associated with this selector would be? I have the parts list and the picture of what is changed by this selector is very hard to follow.

Weiler Matador Unknown Part

Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum as my friend and I just purchased an old Weiler Matador VS lathe. Everything seems to be in good working order but we found some broken metal bands that are concerning. They were located in the compartment with the belt and gears. I posted pictures below to see if anyone can recognize what they may be from.

I was thinking they were from the Feed Gear Train from the Clutch. The handle on the front of the lathe for doesn't feel like it wants to move and the clutch plate doesn't appear to be centered on the pulley. I tried removing the gear and clutch plate and noticed there's a single bolt on the outside perimeter of it so it doesn't feel like it was meant to fit into the pulley. I tried looking through the drawings and can't make any sense of it.

Thanks!

Yesterday I helped a friend get the wiring (3 phase from a convertor) sorted out and his new to him lathe running. Allegedly the lathe has always been used to cut wood to make judicial gavels, and he got a box of soft jaws and form tools with it. My guess it is a 1960s vintage but we don't know.

It came with a nice condition factory owner's manual and I scanned that, ran OCR and then dumped text into Google Translate and the PDF of the manual and the text file from Google are on my website if anyone is interested:

Index of /graphics/metalwork/HES_ACC_300

It has a variety of belts on it, all of which need to be replaced. The manual doesn't give any specifications on them. Are there ISO belts that would be needed on a French lathe or is he likely to be able to substitute an SAE belt that seems "close enough"?

The cross slide has a spot for a rear tool post but it only came with the front turret.

It has a Ladner 3 jaw that seems to have had better days. I found the manufacturer's site (ladner.fr) and he'll be checking to see if he can get some replacement jaws. I suspect he might save money by buying a modern replacement, though A1-4 mounting plates/chucks seem to not be very common. I'm going to encourage him to get a 4 jaw chuck.

It is an interesting and sturdy-looking smaller lathe, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of information on them, so he's lucky the manual came with it.

He plans to paint the lathe so I'll try and get a photo after that happens.

cheers,
Michael

Schaublin 102 rear spindle diameter

Hello,
Does anyone know what is the diameter of the rear part of the spindle for the Schaublin W20 headstock? (more exactly, the rear part of the spindle where accessories such as dividing atachment are mounted)
What about the W25?
I could not find such information online, and I do not have such a headstock to measure.

Best regards

Weiler Matador Headstock Alignment

I followed the instructions laid out in the manual and by the following thread:
https://www.practicalmachinist.com/v...please-289495/

I can't seem to get my alignment any better than .008". I loosened the nut at the front of the spindle and tightened the bearing, all according to the manual. I checked the alignment before I tightened the nut and it was off by maybe .001" which would have been totally acceptable, but when I tightened the nut, it again went back to .008". Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Cazeneuve HB 725 opinions

Hello, a friend of mine is looking for a manual lathe with large spindle bore 70-100mm (3"-4") and small footprint, a bar is going to be fed through the head stock and basically tubes made from 50-60mm stock, 51-52mm spindle bores do not work, since sometimes the stock comes in 55-60mm range, also before anyone asks, the material he needs doesn't come in tube shape, and ordering them to be made in the amount he needs will not be economical

So after a bit of digging this lathe model, the HB 725, seems to fit the purpose, are there any users of these around here that could share their experience?

New (novice) owner of Schaublin 102-VM with a couple of questions

Hi all,

I'm the new owner of a Schaublin 102-VM (1953 model) which I've inherited. It seems to be in good condition and is very complete with many accessories, including a vertical milling attachment.

I'm a novice to lathe work so my plan is to just get to grips with it and see where I go from there - I would imagine that any projects I do will be on the smaller scale for the foreseeable future.

I'm just in the process of cleaning it up, changing it's oils and generally getting to know it and now have a couple of questions that I hope others on this group may be able to help me with.

The first relates to the coolant bath - is there an easy way of pulling the bath out of the stand's right hand leg so that I can empty it and give it a clean-up? As far as I can tell, I'd have to disconnect the flow pipe from the the top of the motor and an extension piece that is on the return pipe which should then allow me to pull the bath out a little although the motor will still be connected to the power.

It seems a bit of a cumbersome process and I wondered if I'm just missing something really obvious?

The second question I have relates to any recommendations for converting my single phase supply to 3 phase. I've spoken briefly to Dave at Drives Direct (all links seem to lead to his website!) and by the sounds of it a digital phase converter is the way to go but there are a couple of options I have on this....

1. a 'plug and play' solution which uses a more expensive, higher capacity converter that would allow me to just plug the lathe into a 3 phase socket. This would let me utilise the lathe's inbuilt controls, and the auxiliary drive and coolant motors would also work in the original way intended. I'd also be able to run other 3 phase machines from the same converter in the future should I need to (one at a time though).

2. a smaller dedicated converter wired directly to the lathe. The main benefit of this would be that I'd gain soft-start and speed control via the converter itself but with the caveat that the speed control would then affect all 3 motors.

Given that I'm unlikely to ever need to run the main and auxiliary motors at the same time (as far as I'm aware anyhow) and I suspect that I can just manually apply coolant from a bottle as required, it seems like option 2 might be my best choice.

I'd be grateful for any feedback anyone can provide on these two topics!

Cheers, Ross.

Fritz Kern KG D18 L Lathe: Looking for any written Information or Manual

Hello to the PM World,
my Name is Wolf and Im from Germany.Im 34 Years old and doing Car Repairs as a Hobby for nearly all my Lifetime;-)

To expand my Possibilities,
I bought a well used Industial Lathe from the Scrapyard last Week.
Its made by "Fritz Kern Kg, Lörrach Germany" in the 60s.
The Type is D 18 L.

As I learnd over the Weekend, there is nearly no Information about this Lathe on the Internet...
Is there anybody out there who can scan a Manual or Brochure of this Lathe?

I had to dismantle the Lathe at the Scrapyard to bring it Home, it is nearly 1200kg.I plan to check all the Parts before I put them together again, so a Manual or a Lubrication Chart would be great...

Sadly,
I do not have a Photo of my Lathe because I forgot about it as I had to rush through the Dismantling to clear the Place at the Scrapyard...
Edit:
I found a Photo my Father took:
